Võivere baseline of the Struve Arc

One point of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Struve Geodetic Arc is located in Lääne-Virumaa, next to the Võivere windmill and is marked with a limestone foundation.

In 1827, under the supervision of Friedrich Georg Wilhelm Struve, the baseline of Simuna-Võivere was measured. The measurement is part of the measurement of the meridian arc performed in 1816–1855, the aim of which was to find out the size and shape of the Earth.

From 12 June 2020, an exhibition is open on the three floors of Võivere Windmill, which will tell the story of the Struve Geodetic Arc, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
